HOW TO DEVELOP AN EFFECTIVE TRAINING STRATEGY? by Ravinder Tulsiani

Training your staff is one of the basic factors to be considered in a business. You need monetary resources for that; so it’s better if you spend your money wisely and plan certain effective training strategies from beforehand. The strategies should be simple and comprehensive, so that every employee gets a hook of it easily. If all the employees are not equally trained, the fruitfulness of the training strategy, as a whole, will be nullified. Yes, it will be tempting to hold back the training program for an indefinite time and wait for more money to come in for commencing the same. But the fact is, an effective training strategy is very essential for the success of your business. The more you will delay the training, the less you will be closer to the success.
There are certain aspects you need to consider to make a productive as well as effective training strategy:
1.    Goal of your Company
The primary objective of an effective training strategy is to analyze the needs of your company. What is the target of your company? What are its strong and weak points? What are the areas you need to focus on? What is the ultimate goal of your company? These are a few questions that need to be answered in the very beginning.
2.    Performance Gaps (if any)
Compare and contrast the key skills you need from an employee for a particular position and the skills he/she actually has. If you can identify any gap, start working on it. Plan your training in a way that the performance gaps get narrowed and the employee can very quickly overcome his/her lacunae.

3.    Management Support:
Put down you training strategy categorically with its schedule, objectives, vision and outcome in front of the management. Get it finalized, resolve any confusion associated with it and obtain all the resources you require to make the management training effective.

4.    Types of Training:
There are two types of training procedures:
·       Training with Internal Resources: Find out the in house resources you can use for developing a successful training strategy. These resources are inexpensive, but often at par with the employees’ need.
·       Training with External Resources: These resources include special classes, seminars, professional trainers, video conferences, power point presentations etc. This training procedure demands money, but often yields highly profitable results.
5.    Budget:
The development of training strategy is not a onetime expenditure. So, budgeting requires your special attention. Calculate the expenditure aptly to provide the best training to maximum number of employees over an extensive time period.
6.    Impact:
Training program for employees is costly and the impact is not immediately seen. You cannot draw the bottom line that early. It’s a long term procedure and you have to wait for its yield. However your employees will get more and more knowledgeable through the training procedures. You can also assess their sincerity by measuring the degree of commitment they have towards the training program.
